Hepatitis B Virus HBV is a partially double-stranded DNA virus of the Hepadnaviridae family that causes acute and chronic liver disease with a very high risk of death from liver cirrhosis and cancer. Worldwide an estimated 2 billion people have been infected with the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and more than 350 million have chronic consequences of hepatitis B.
